History
SWC subscribed to the maxim that to operate and manage the water treatment plants effectively and efficiently, it is imperative that the employees are dedicated, motivated and well trained to handle the intricacies of the complex machineries located at the water treatment plants.
An academy known as “Akademi SWC” was set up in August 1994 aim to provide the relevant education and training to new and existing employees.
At the initial stage, Akademi SWC was situated at a rented training facility at Institut Pertanian, Air Hitam in Johor. In 1997, to achieve coordination and logistical efficiencies, Akademi SWC was relocated to its own building located within the vicinity of the Sembrong Barat water treatment plant.
Current efforts are put in place to upgrade the training and associated facilities at the premise where Akademi SWC is located. The upgrading of the facilities is aim to provide a more conducive and comfortable environment for the employees attending the training programmes.
Akademi SWC aim to achieve the following goals at the end of the education and training programmes:
Since its inception in mid 1994, Akademi SWC had conducted in excess of forty (40) training programmes and had trained over six hundred (600) employees. The programmes cover a wide field relevant to the tasks at hand. Training programmes have been continuously developed and existing ones updated and improved over the years.
At the macro level, Akademi SWC provides the following training courses:
Akademi SWC can accommodate approximately forty (40) employees in a training session.
In order to ensure new and existing employees participate in the training sessions, management has drawn up a yearly calendar indicating the relevant details of the training programmes and the proposed participants.
The trainers for most of the training programmes are also employees of SWC. These trainers are experienced and motivated and ever ready to impart their knowledge to the trainee employees. In cases where the training courses are unique and more intensive, SWC would engage external trainers to carry out the training programmes.
The training programmes provided suits the practical needs of SWC as well as adhering to the laws and regulations as prescribed by the relevant authorities.
Akademi SWC provides comprehensive training courses ranging from maintenance of water treatment equipment and machinery, safe laboratory practices, practical management, maintaining good health and safety practices, religious and physical education.
The whole facets of the training programmes provided by Akademi SWC will enable each and every employee to expand his potential and be well versed in all aspects of maintenance, operation, administration and safety and health.
SWC practise corporate social responsibility and through Akademi SWC is willing to share its vast experiences in conducting training programmes with other water operators so that the water industry as a whole would be more effective and efficient.

The increasing challenges of the future demand that employees are geared both mentally and physically to face the complexities.
